The Sustainable Food Systems (SFS) Programme of the 10-Year Framework for Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP)
The aim of this global multi-stakeholder initiative is to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable consumption and production patterns in the agri-food sector. This objective is pursued through a systematic approach: sustainability all along the food value chain, from farm to fork. The initiative aims to do this through concrete activities and projects in the areas of raising public awareness, developing capacity, access to knowledge and information, and strengthening partnerships. The focal points of the programme include the promotion of sustainable diets and the reduction of food waste. Switzerland (FOAG) is co-leading the 10YFP Sustainable Food Systems Programme together with South Africa, WWF International and the Netherlands Development NGO Hivos. The Programme is also governed by an Advisory Committee with members from 23 institutions from different world regions and stakeholder groups including the FAO, UNEP, the USA, Brazil and Nestlé. Development of the Programme was co-ordinated by the FAO and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).
