The OECD-FAO joint Guidance for Responsible Agricultural Supply Chains, published in March 2016, is directed at enterprises which operate along the international value chain for agricultural products.
The Guidance helps these enterprises to undertake due diligence, thus contributing to sustainable development, and to ensure that their operations do not lead to adverse impacts.
Like the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, the Guidance contains recommendations for business policy which takes account of relevant international standards for a responsible agricultural value chain. It also contains a framework for a risk-based due diligence process, for mitigating the greatest risks and for engaging with indigenous peoples.
Corporate Social Responsibility is described with a comprehensive catalogue of themes. The OECD-FAO Guidance is applicable everywhere where multinational enterprises conduct their business activities. The Guidance is an important instrument for structuring sustainable development.
