Protection from harmful organisms (Quarantine Pests)

Phytosanitary measures aim at preventing the introduction and spread of organisms harmful to plants or plant products according to the plant protection ordinance (quarantine pests). These regulations are based on the principles and norms of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC).The Swiss Federal Plant Protection Service (SPPS), constituted by the Federal Office of Environment FOEN and the Federal Office of  Agriculture (FOAG), is responsible for this task. The FOAG implements the provisions of the plant protection ordinance (PPO) and referring regulations in the sector of agricultural and horticultural crops.
