The Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL) and the Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance (LEAP) Partnership

The Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL) is an initiative that aims to enhance the contribution of the livestock sector to sustainable development through the efficient use of natural resources. It is composed of representatives from governments, the private sector, academia, non-governmental organisations, social movements and local organisations, and intergovernmental organisations. The Global Agenda provides a platform to bring together the different stakeholders of the livestock sector and to promote policy dialogue, the exchange of knowledge and experience, and joint action for a sustainable livestock sector. The diversity of its members, with regional and local roots, enables the Global Agenda to comprehensively address the multiple challenges for developing a sustainable livestock sector.

The Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance (LEAP) Partnership is a multi-stakeholder initiative that seeks to improve the environmental performance of livestock supply chains while ensuring their economic and social viability. It is one of GASL’s Action Networks. It develops scientific methods and guidelines to measure and improve the environmental performance of livestock farming.

The Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture (WASAG)

WASAG

The Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture (WASAG) brings together key players from across the globe and from different sectors to tackle the collective challenge of using water better in agriculture to ensure food security. This supports sustainable agricultural intensification, strengthens relevant stakeholders in the food system and fosters the transformation towards more sustainable food systems. As Europe’s water reservoir, Switzerland can make an important contribution not only through its political network and multilateral collaboration, but also through its research experience.

The Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA)

The Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) brings countries together to find ways to grow more food without increasing greenhouse gas emissions. It focuses on the research, development and expansion of technologies and practices. Switzerland is a founding member of the GRA and cooperates with other members, particularly in the area of research.
